Hello everyone…

I have a Son currently serving in Afghanistan and Operation Moms has been a huge support for me and all our Military Men & Women Serving. They provided great care packages to our troops, filled with cards, food, toiletries and base needs to mention a few.

Below is a letter from Mom’s Cookies. They are in need of some supplies, as our Troops grow so does the their needs. If you could provide any of the items listed below or know of a company that could donate any of the needed supplies, we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank You for Supporting all our Men and Women Serving.

Janet Scott

David Zimmerman- The Gulf Coast and the forgotten people

by Leza Raley-Labrador on Jul.28, 2010, under Contributers

10_charter-captain-venice-louisianaI first arrived in Plaquemines Parish along the southern Louisiana coast one week after the BP Deep-water Horizon oil rig exploded and sank into the Gulf of Mexico.

The marshes at South Pass were eerily silent. Estuaries and breeding grounds choked on crude oil and toxic chemical dispersant. Wildlife washed up dead or sank lifeless to the seabed. The boat captains eyes mirrored the noxious decay clinging to his boat.

For all the devastation I saw off-shore, the worst of what I saw was on-shore; in the faces and voices of the people who call this place home.

“What I don’t understand is, you talk about the oil, you talk about the wetlands, you talk about the animals; but you’re forgetting the people – again. Eleven people lost their lives. My brother in law, he’s been trying to call everyone to put his boat out there in the water. “Oh, we’re not looking for 22 foot boats”. You can’t put them out to work? You took their work! BP it’s time for you to stand up and take notice of the people that need help”. Venessa Rayas. Fisherman’s wife. Buras, Louisiana

The courage that wills the people of the Gulf to go on is being tested once again. Tested by a disaster that will continue to replay. Tested by a corporate giant that has its own agenda. Tested by a government unwilling to or unable to take the lead.

Generations have made these waters home, and these waters and the people of the region have become the voices that go unheard.

Memorial Day — Never Forget — Always Honor

I thought it a good day to share an essay my now 14-year old nephew wrote two years ago for which he won 1st place.  A great reminder to all of us by our younger generation.

What is an American

By: Christian Cortez

2008

Americans, I believe that even though you aren’t born in the United States you can be an American.  An American I believe, is someone who takes pride in living here in the United States, protects it, and does whatever it takes to help make this world a better place.

Where we are today is because of the people in the past who have fought to protect this nation.  There are people out there that died in war to help us have our freedom.  To be a true American you have to help this world, and believe that all of us can make this place better.  We have to appreciate what we have because there are a million kids around the world that don’t even live under a roof, or have any food.  We are all lucky to have a house, family, friends so we should appreciate the values of what we have.

The traditions in America often come from something big that has happened.  For example, Thanksgiving is a holiday that we all appreciate, know and love, but would we have it if our ancestors didn’t sail to America?

Today, people are still sacrificing their own lives to help us, and they are true Americans.  Now, people are donating things to give to the needy and that’s one way to help our world be a happier place.  So if you fight to protect or help and believe in the United States of America, you are a true American.

The Best Taxi Driver in London The World

by Louis Ricca

032720105411

London is a city that has been around for many years, and absorbing the history of London, and the UK can be quite a daunting challenge that would take a College course spanning several semesters in order to get a good handle on it. We met a cabby that did just that.

My wife Jacqueline and I went to London this March 20th until the 27th, both for business and holiday. I was to go alone at first to attend to two of my clients National (and International) film screening and opening at the Ritzy in the Brixton part of London. No One Knows About Persian Cats is a film by Bahman Ghobadi about the illegal underground music scene in Iran that stars Ash Koosha and Negar Shaghaghi as well as their music and many other genres of music and musicians. The film has won over 7 awards, one which is the Un Certain Regard Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. (a must see movie, especially if you are a music buff) Since this trip was going to be a couple of days, my wife decided she would like to visit London since she had never been there. So we went together and spent a week.

We got to see a lot of London, basically the tourist route: Buckingham Palace, London Bridge, Big Ben, 10 Downing Street, Brick Lane and of course much more. We thought we saw it all until the final day, or should I say, the final hours we were in London when we met a man who most people would think was just an ordinary, simple man that drives people from point “A” to point “B” in order to make a living. We would never had met this man if it weren’t for a couple of negative events that seemed to want us to stay in London. (continue reading…)

The global community is rushing to the aid of Haiti, but is the response too slow? Or are the conditions in Haiti hampering the effort?
