Simple Pleasures

by Leza Raley-Labrador on May.24, 2010, under Events, Inspiration Station

img_0254 Have you ever found yourself simply in love with life? Everyday, everywhere I turn, I am inspired either by a fabulous read, an exquisite film, laughing with a friend, or simply enjoying my surroundings.

Inspiration is what drives us to that unique place in life where we start to live and love. The simple pleasures that we take for granted can lead us to unpredictable happiness and life’s grandest pleasures.

Life, to live one day at a time, one moment at a time, to savor our surroundings, and explore the possibilities that lay at our doorstep, to acknowledge miracles, opportunities that surround us, and to not take one moment, one second for granted, that is truly living. Life, each and every second is different, never to be repeated just a simple beautiful moment. Life one moment that can last forever, one moment that gives us the grandest of stories to tell for years to come and one moment that can change our lives forever, to learn from, to grow and to enjoy. Not all of life’s blessings are happy ones, but if we take with us the knowledge of life’s miracles or lessons, we grow as human beings, learning and evolving each and every moment.

On March 20, veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, along with more than 100 other peace groups, will be marching for peace in Washington DC, Los Angeles and San Francisco, to mark the start of the 8th year of the Iraq war.

PEACE PLEASE supports these marches, and we hope that all those who are able will join us there. For further information please visit www.March20.org.

Additionally, starting on March 15, a Peace of the Action tent city is being set up on the grounds of the Washington Mall, with the intent to remain there until the troops start coming home. Various actions are planned to bring attention to the ongoing cost of these wars to our troops, our economy and the Afghan and Iraqi people.

It’s time to make that “ONE DAY” - of the Matisyahu song playing on the Peace Please home page - NOW. Please, do all you can.

Date: Wednesday, February 17, 2010
Time: 7:00 PM
Place: Hard Rock Café, 1501 Broadway, New York City

On February 17, Dom Famularo, the Chapin family and some of the biggest names in the music industry will launch the Jim Chapin Memorial Teacher Scholarship at the famed Hard Rock Café in New York City. The event, which celebrates the legacy of one of drumming’s most dedicated and influential legends, will feature Famularo as master of ceremonies and will include performances by some of today’s leading drummers, along with music by members of the Chapin family (Tom, Jen, Steve, Abigail, Lily and David Chapin).

Mr. Chapin, who passed away on July 4, 2009, just shy of his 90th birthday, was known as the “Father of Independence”, due in a large part to the revolutionary book he published in 1948 entitled Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer, Vol. I. Still in print today, it became known among drummers simply as “The Chapin Book” and is arguably the most important drum set text ever written. In 1994, Mr. Chapin received two honors for his contributions to music and education: the American Eagle Award, presented by the National Music Council in Washington, DC and a lifetime achievement award from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. And in 1995, he was inducted into the Percussive Arts Society Hall of Fame.

The Jim Chapin Memorial Teacher Scholarship will be given annually, beginning in 2010, and is open to instructors that want to improve their teaching programs. Specific details on how and when to apply will be disseminated in the near future. (continue reading…)

Hope for Haiti Now!

by Leza Raley-Labrador on Jan.22, 2010, under Events

Friends, please watch “Hope for Haiti” tonight. On August 28th 1990, I survived a level 5 tornado. My family and countless others lost their homes, businesses, schools and some even lost their lives to this devastating storm. We were forced to depend on the help of Red Cross and beautiful strangers. It took years for us to rebuild our lives and for some their lives will never be the same. What we lost was great, but what we gained was a new love and respect for humanity. Now the people of Haiti need our support. Please do what you can, because one day it maybe you who need the helping hand. YouTube Preview Image
